Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a referral for custom orthotics?
Not always. Some insurance providers require a referral for reimbursement, but a referral is not required to book an appointment. We recommend checking with your provider first.
Are custom orthotics covered by insurance?
Yes. Most extended health insurance plans cover part or all of the cost of custom orthotics and compression therapy. Always confirm coverage details with your provider before your appointment.
What makes custom orthotics different from store-bought inserts?
Store-bought insoles offer general cushioning, but custom orthotics are tailored to your exact foot structure, gait, and needs. They're designed using a detailed biomechanical analysis and are built from high-quality materials for long-lasting support.
What conditions do orthotics help with?
Custom orthotics can help with:
- Plantar fasciitis
- Flat feet or high arches
- Achilles tendonitis
- Bunions or toe deformities
- Knee, hip, or low back pain related to foot alignment
- Arthritis-related foot issues
- Diabetic foot concerns (when paired with proper footwear)
How long do custom orthotics last?
With proper care and wear, most custom orthotics last 2 to 5 years, depending on your activity level and footwear. Our team can also perform adjustments or rechecks as needed.
What should I expect during my orthotics appointment?
Your Pedorthist will perform a comprehensive assessment of your medical history, pain points, posture, gait, and foot structure. You’ll receive guidance on footwear, recommendations for orthotic design, and a chance to ask questions before fabrication begins. Fittings and adjustments are done right here at the clinic.
