What Is Kinesiology?
Kinesiology is the study of human movement, applied through structured, therapeutic exercise. By understanding how the body moves—and where it compensates when injured—Registered Kinesiologists help individuals improve function, mobility, balance, posture, and physical resilience.
Kinesiology is ideal for:
- Post-injury or post-surgical rehabilitation
- Return-to-work or return-to-sport programs
- Chronic pain or mobility limitations
- Athletic performance enhancement
- Injury prevention and body mechanics training

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between physiotherapy and kinesiology?
Physiotherapy focuses on acute recovery, pain relief, and manual techniques, while kinesiology is centered on functional movement, strength building, and long-term rehabilitation through exercise. Kinesiology is often the next step after physiotherapy.
Do I need a referral to see a kinesiologist?
No referral is necessary to book a session. However, some insurance plans may require a physician’s note for reimbursement. Check with your provider for details.
Is kinesiology covered by insurance?
Yes. Many insurance providers offer coverage under extended health benefits. Common plans that include kinesiology coverage are Desjardins, Greenshield, VAC, and Chamber of Commerce plans.
Can kinesiology help after surgery?
Absolutely. Kinesiology is especially effective in post-surgical rehabilitation, helping patients safely rebuild mobility, strength, and functional independence. Ashley can tailor a program to match your recovery goals.
What should I wear to my session?
Wear comfortable, athletic clothing that allows for movement. Running shoes or supportive footwear are recommended, as sessions typically include guided stretching, strengthening, and mobility exercises.
How many sessions will I need?
This depends on your goals, current condition, and progress. Some clients need a few sessions to build a solid home program, while others benefit from continued support. Your care plan will be adapted to your needs.
